Colorful Feast

A colorful feast for the eyes at least. Most of the fruit on these untended volunteer apple trees is not good to eat, but they sure are pretty to look at, especially with the sky in the background. Sometimes they stay on the trees long after the leaves have left and the trees are decorated with apples in the snow.8x10 oil on canvas

Fifth of July

I painted this from a photo I took of the clean and empty Water Sreet the day after the fourth of July. The contrast between the two days is quite remarkable. The street is a zoo on the 4th. All of the colors were soft and pastel looking. The buildings and windows reduced to small strokes and blocks of color, when looked at from this angle. 8x10 oil on canvas

Lindy's Beauties

Yesterday, I took lots of pictures of Lindy's beautiful chickens. I'm glad I got some good ones of her gorgeous roosters who will soon be harvested. They all look so healthy and happy. Little do they know...

Hydrangea Still Life

Still lifes are great because you can see all the subtleties in lighting that aren't there in most photos and you can control the light. This one makes me happy, and I love these hydrangeas!

Six is a crowd

This is a larger version of my previous boats. I think I like the smaller version better. The shapes and shadows are so intriguing to me. 16x20

Struttin

Chickens are so much fun to paint! These beauties are a pampered few over in Quoddy Village. No signs of overcrowded henpecking.

Monday 12 October 2009

So sometimes life gets in the way of art! So, if anyone was wondering why I haven't posted anything lately, that is the reason. I have been working on a larger painting of boats that i am not very happy with, and then I get discouraged. Later today I will have a new painting to post so don't give up on me!

Pumpkin Time

One of the best things about this time of year is pumpkins. They just make you feel good. They are also fun to paint. These were for sale this past weekend at the Perry Harvest Fair. I would have loved to have gotten several, because I'm also a big Halloween fan.

Sitting Pretty

Don't you just love reflections?! So much fun to play with. This boat is actually from Deer Island N.B., which you have to take the ferry from Eastport to get there. Very nice, and worth the trip.

Take Me!

There is something I love about the shapes of these row boats all pointing in different directions. I love painting boats. They are sort of shaped like chickens!

Busy Day

I painted these chickens down at Peter Small's. Two loose geese were nibbling at my legs and feet the entire time until scared them away with the lid of my pallet, and of course the chickens wouldn't keep still, so it has a bit of an abstract quality to it.

Old Eastport Firetruck

.I went out to Quoddy Village today with Marty and we painted this truck. It has such a nice color and shape to it. I found the shadow on the side to be a challenge, but am happy with it.

Backyard Barn

This is the scene from my back yard. It never fails to nourish me when I look at it. It doesn't belong to me, but it is mine. The sun always sets behind the trees and the sky looks amazing on many evenings. Soon it will be covered with snow, but I won't think about that.

South End apples

Eastport has hundreds of neglected apple trees on the island. I have always been attracted to painting them. This is my first attempt. These apples are bigger than most, but tart. This one is actually on my mother in law's property and she likes to make apple sauce with them. This painting is for sale on e-bay.

This is an old boat called "Friendship" down at Deep Cove. It has seen better days, but still
has a very cool look and a soulfull feeling about it. The grasses and weeds at low tide have some beautiful colors in them.
